The Haunted Borley Rectory

The Borley rectory burned down in 1939 and eventually was demolished in 1944. Prior to that  it was a Victorian mansion that was noted for being “the most haunted house in England“. The height of the sightings happened around the the late 1920’s when a paranormal researcher by the name of Harry Price did some research on the grounds. Many people at the time tried to discredit his claims, but others weren’t thrown off so easily.

The grounds became a popular destination for paranormal researchers from all over the world. It’s been showcased on many television shows, documentaries and even a few movies. Now the church on the grounds has become notorious for ghostly activity, it’s almost like the energy shifted from the house to the church.

One of the stories as to why the grounds are so haunted is that supposedly a monk from the original rectory had an affair with one of the nuns from a nearby convent. They were both executed on grounds which could be the reason so many people have seen a monk and a nun wandering the grounds.
