Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum

Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum is located in Weston West Virginia. It has been featured on the paranormal shows such as Ghost hunters and Ghost Adventures. This massive location was built in the mid to late 1800’s. It’s actually the largest hand cut stone masonry built complex in the USA.

The eerie part of this place is that it sits on 666 ACRES OF LAND!

Trans-Allegheny was home to people who had mental disorders . However, some were sent there by their families because they were ashamed of them for some reason. The place was overcrowded and the conditions were very poor to say the least.

There were many stories of people being kept in dark places like basements or small holes that were dug up to help “deal with their conditions”. It was FINALLY closed in 1994 and it wasn’t because they wanted to close it, but rather because it was beyond repair.

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum was notoriously known for being a  real DANGEROUS place. Patients would kill staff and even each other in fits of rage, and some of the staff treated the patients very poorly.
